2015 Iowa State Fair Egg Decorating Contest Winners

The Iowa Egg Council held its 18th Annual Egg Decorating Contest on Thursday, August 13, at the Iowa State Fair, in the Agriculture Building. The entries were exquisite, which made judging the decorated eggs very difficult! The TOP 3 winners were: 1. Marietta Wilson, Dallas Center 2. Mary Pruismann, Blairsburg 3. Pat Byer, Marshalltown.

The panel of judges,  included Bill Northey, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Nathan Stanton, Iowa Poultry Association Board of Directors and Michelle Lamb, Painting Art Director, Sticks Objects of Art and Furniture.  The decorated eggs were judged equally on the following criteria: Design, Artistic Merit, Creativity, Technical Merit and Effective Use of the Egg.

This year the prizes included a $500 first place prize, a $400 second place prize, and a third place $300 prize. The winning eggs will make their way around the great state of Iowa in a traveling egg display. The hand-decorated eggs will be showcased at local libraries across the state.

Decadent Dessert Baking Contest Winners Announced

 

“DECADENT DESSERT BAKING CONTEST WINNERS ANNOUNCED”

 URBANDALE, IOWA – The Iowa Egg Council held its’ “Decadent Dessert” baking contest April 18, 2015 from 10 AM – 2 PM at Reiman Gardens in Ames, Iowa.

The top 5 finalists in each category, adult and student, were invited to Reiman Gardens to prepare their decadent dessert in front of a panel judges. The judges included: Tana Goertz, TV personality “The Apprentice”, radio talk show host, author and motivational speaker, Tawnya Zerr, owner of The Cupcake Emporium and contestant on the Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars,” Christina Moffatt, owner of Crème Cupcake and Dessert and contestant on the Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars,” and Cristen Clark, food blogger “Food and Swine.” The panel of judges scored the finalists on the taste, appearance/presentation, originality and use of eggs in their desserts.

Although, it was not easy, the judges made their final decision in each category. The 1st place winners received $750, 2nd place $350, 3rd place $250, 4th place $75, and 5th place $50. The results are as follows:

Adult Division

  1. Rebecca Groff, Cedar Rapids – Claret Poached Pear Tart
  2. Louise Piper, Garner – Egglicious Dried Apricot Pie
  3. April Schmitt , Fort Atkinson – A Little Bite of Heaven
  4. Cheryl Rogers, Ankey – Gingerbread Pudding with Orange Molasses Cream
  5. Sheila Koch, Tipton – Hot Fudge Sundae Cupcake

Student Division

  1. Dylan Schrock, Kalona – Pina Colada Pie
  2. Jordy Downs, Delaware – Butter Pecan Cream Cheese Pound Cake
  3. Ania Chamberlin, Ames – Chocolate Filled Lime Cake
  4. Cayla Jackson, DeWitt – Hazelnut Coffee Angel Food Cake
  5. Jessica Lenz, Stanley – Jessica’s Fabulous Raspberry Pastries

The Iowa Egg Council held its 17th Annual Egg Decorating Contest on Thursday, August 7, at the Iowa State Fair, in the Agriculture Building.  Once again, all of the entries were beautiful, and made it difficult for the judges to make a decision.  The TOP 3 winners were:  1.  Mary Pruismann, Blairsburg  2.  Marion Smith, Eagle Grove 3.  Marietta Wilson, Dallas Center

The panel of judges, which included Bill Northey, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Rich Hall, Board of Directors, chair and Jill Featherstone, Director of Education, Des Moines Art Center judged the eggs equally on the following criteria:  Design, Artistic Merit, Creativity, Technical Merit and Effective Use of the Egg.
